Fresh Design & Print plant 3,000 trees in a day to add to the UKs largest continuous new native woodland

Fresh Design & Print recently took part in a Carbon Capture Tree Planting Day, in Heartwood Forest, Hertfordshire, A mega day of action saw more than 3,000 trees planted at a site which is set to become the UK’s biggest continuous new native woodland.

Held on 27th November, the Tree Planting Day saw over 150 participants from ethically minded businesses involved on the planting of the trees to support the Carbon Capture scheme. Guests arrived at Heartwood Forest, which is a ‘Woodland Carbon Site’ in St. Albans, where they were greeted with hot drinks and breakfast to set them up for a hard days planting. Following introductory briefs and guides on how to plant trees, they then planted in excess of 3,000 trees including Oak, Alder, Willow, Wild Cherry, Rowan, Holly, Beech, Hazel amongst others at the site.

Carbon Capture®

CO2 emissions from the paper purchased and used by Fresh Design & Print is compensated for by planting and conserving native woodland right here in the UK. Carbon Capture sets a new standard for CO2 mitigation, removing equivalent amounts from the atmosphere through the creation of native woodland across the country.

The scheme operates under the Woodland Trust’s Woodland Carbon scheme and the Government’s Woodland Carbon Code, a voluntary standard for woodland creation projects in the UK. The independent certification to this standard provides assurance and clarity about the carbon benefits of these sustainably managed woodlands. It is calculated that 25m² of native UK woodland will capture and store one tonne of CO2 and creating large areas of new native woodland, will, over time, remove hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Heartwood Forest:

Clare Allen, Head of Partnerships at the Woodland Trust said: “Heartwood Forest is a really special site for the Woodland Trust. It is our largest site in England at 857 acres. It is our biggest woodland creation site and as well as this it is also has several areas of much treasured irreplaceable ancient woodland dating back hundreds of years.”

The Woodland Trust

The Woodland Trust works tirelessly to create a UK rich in woodlands which can benefit our environment and be enjoyed and valued by everyone. Woodland not only provides a rich, bio diverse environment for wildlife but also provides us all with green, open space for rest and recreation. More than 1,200 woodlands throughout the UK are owned or managed by the Woodland Trust, covering in excess of 60,000 acres throughout the UK, with free and easy year round access for us all to enjoy. Trees improve our quality of life, making our local communities and neighbourhoods greener and more pleasant places to live.

Fresh Wins Top Prize
At The Solutions Awards

It was a triumphant day at The Solutions Awards in London when Fresh Design & Print picked up the overall winners award.

Fresh Design & Print based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire were voted overall winner at a packed Café De Paris Ceremony in London on November 18th.

They were nominated in 2 categories for Best Solution for Books and Best Solution for Design and came runners up in both categories.

After drawing in the Best Solution for Design with exactly the same percentage, the vote was taken back into room and voted on via electronic keypads and Fresh missed winning a 2nd award of the day by just 1%.

But little did they know that there was one more award that was not voted on by the public but by The Print Solutions magazine itself and triumphed by winning it.

The Solutions Awards is an annual event that acknowledges and congratulates people in the graphic arts industry for creativity, innovation, ideas and inspiration and is organised by Print Solutions magazine, published by Earth Island Publishing.

There were hundreds of entries, from which just five were shortlisted in each category and these were then voted for online by readers of Print Solutions Magazine with three final nominees being chosen.

There were in excess of 5000 votes electronically and 250 people attended the event at the Café de Paris, and they also had a chance to vote for their favourites via interactive keypads.

These votes were added to those received online to decide on the winners.

The Solutions Awards was backed by one of the biggest multi-media campaigns in the industry and the twitter exposure during the awards reached more than 33,000 timelines, with nearly 58,000 impressions.

For Fresh it is their 2nd award after picking up a Scoot Headline Award in April for coming up with a new market in the recession for print to the education sector.

After they had picked up their award Kevin and Andy from Fresh described what winning the award meant to them.

' This is the biggest award Fresh has won and it comes after 6 years of hard work and shows that if you have a dream of being highly creative in design and print and can provide real solutions to problems, you can get recognised and rewarded. We are very proud to win this and let all our clients know that it was them who put us here and those who don't know us come and have a chat and we will show you why we are good at what we do.'

Fresh The Fine Art Catalogue Specialists

There are not many printers that can handle a job like the one we do for Tring Market Auctions, which is why they have entrusted us to produce their Fine Art Catalogue for the last 6 years.

The job itself isn't that complicated but due to the nature of the auctions we do not get the final lots until 2 days before they have to be sold and it usually consists of over 500 lots. We then get the text and pictures and design it into a catalogue and get it proofed within a day and then we have 1 day to print and finish and deliver it back.

We can do this because all of the processes are produced all in house, from the design of it all, then the digital print and finally the finishing of it to fold, collate and staple it into a catalogue all to a strict tight deadline.

Andy from Fresh said, ' We are used to working under enormous pressure and tight deadlines, this one is probably one of the most extreme ones but because we have been doing it for so long we know what to expect and cope with it very well.'

Fresh wins a Scoot Award

Earlier on in the year we announced that we had won a national award from Scoot. Well we promised to show you a picture of us receiving our award and here it is.

The trophy was presented at a glittering ceremony in The River Room at The Millbank Tower, London. More than a million companies were invited to tell their success stories of commercial achievement and ours was how we aimed to beat the recession through finding a niche market within the education industry.

After collecting the award, Director Andy Gerlack said ' Its a proud day for all of us at Fresh, as its been a lot of hard work to get us to this point and its these sort of awards that make it all worthwhile.'
